The contribution is based on a lecture held in February 2020 at the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society in cooperation with the expert committee on copyright of the Society for Music Economy and Music Culture Research (GMM), which dealt with interdisciplinary approaches to new questions of copyright. Appropriation Art is the conscious and deliberate incorporation of foreign works into one’s own works and their development. How (well) do the German and the European copyright handle Appropriation Art? The article deals with this question and the current Metall auf Metall case law of the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) that has already passed the fourth decision this spring, namely Metall auf Metall IV dated 30.04.2020.
